Plant List

Listed below are the plants that I am currently growing (or have grown in the past) - if you think the list looks large, divide it by two and then remove a few more. Most plants are listed by both scientific and one (or more) common names.

My goal is to create a resource for those gardening in our Deep South Texas area. Maybe one day each of these entries will have a link with some practical advice for local gardeners.

Bear with me - this will be a work in progress!

Wow... Mary Beth... what a great idea. AND a lot of work for you.

Have you ever seen the website called Floridata.com -- it has quite a data base of plants that grow in Florida... it is extremely helpful. You could probably find lots of information there as well.

What an ambitious plan. I think this would be invaluable list for us southern gardeners. I'll be looing forward to updates.

MEEMS & JAN - A friend keeps an annual list of all the plants in her garden. After I saw her list, I began putting one together in an Excel file. As I was planning some new beds, I found myself referring to my friends plant list over and over. That led me to think that sharing my list could be helpful.

I have used Floridata some - but thanks for reminding me about it. I've been relying on Dave's Garden Site.

I originally started my blog to document every plant in my garden. I've gone through almost all of them now--I do have a dozen or so cacti to go, but I think I'm through my list. I thought I had a lot of plants, but I must say, you have more!

That's an extensive, impressive list Mary Beth! I started one of these a few years back (just to help me keep track of what plants were in my garden. I had it divided into sun and shade categories also as that was helpful in our climate, not sure about yours?? Unfortunately, I've neglected to keep it updated. :-( If I ever move south, I'm contacting you!!

AIYANA - Be sure to divide my list in half since they're all listed by both scientific and common names - and some have 2 or 3 common names! But we can grow a large variety of plants here.

KATHLEEN - The next step in my list is going to be dividing into a few catagories - but I hadn't thought about using shade requirements to divide them. Good idea! I'm keeping my master list on Excel with scientific name across from common name. I'm hoping it will be easy to update each year. . . . we'll see
